ONTRACK owns and manages New Zealand’s rail network on behalf of the Government.

We look after 4,000km of railway track as well as signals, bridges and tunnels. We also control the safe movement of trains around the country.

Rail played a key role in New Zealand’s early development. Today, we’re working to ensure the efficient running of passenger and freight traffic into the future.

Rail transport is increasingly popular around the world, as well as in New Zealand. More people are realising that rail is an environmentally friendly transport option - every train on the tracks means fewer cars and trucks on the road.
