Our 900-strong staff are grouped in an KiwiRail Network(ONTRACK)-20100210.pdf that helps us to expand the use of rail in New Zealand by maintaining and improving the network. Responsibility for carrying out our key tasks is spread throughout the organisation as follows.
Corporate Our head office is based in Wellington. The corporate team provides the organisation’s overall direction, and support in the areas of legal, communications, policy, health and safety, information technology, and human resources.
EngineeringOur engineering teams develop, maintain and renew the track and structures such as bridges. They also manage some aspects of rail’s interaction with the roading network, and design and manage signalling and communications equipment.
PropertyOur property division manages 18,000 hectares of land used for rail and other purposes.
Access and operationsRail operations, including train control and access to the network, is co-ordinated on a day to day basis by ONTRACK’s regional offices.
ONTRACK Infrastructure LtdONTRACK Infrastructure manages the ongoing maintenance and renewals of track and signals, including level crossings, out in the field. 

Project teams We have a project office in Auckland to deliver the DART rail upgrade and an office at our Kaiwharawhara depot to deliver the Wellington Region Rail Programme.
