Property Policy
ONTRACK manages a substantial portfolio of property associated with the rail network. Our main aim is to use railway land in ways that boost freight and passenger rail traffic. We also try to ensure railway land makes a financial return. ONTRACK administers 18,000 hectares of railway land throughout New Zealand. It administers approximately 7,000 land leases, licences and grants held by third parties. The land is generally held for current or future railway purposes. ONTRACK is making steady progress on regularising the arrangements that exist for occupation of the rail corridor. Two of the most common examples are past agreements for farmers to graze stock and occupation by householders of small plots of land adjoining the corridor. ONTRACK aims to keep the rail corridor tidy and clear of graffiti, however this is a major challenge at a time when graffiti is rife and individuals show little responsibility for their own rubbish. ONTRACK is working in partnership with organisations to improve the appearance of the rail corridor. If you are considering buying or developing land near the rail corridor ONTRACK has provided answers to some of the more common questions you may have. This information will help you to make an informed purchase choice and alert you to some of the concerns ONTRACK has about land development adjacent to the corridor. Answers are also provided in respect to questions about maintenance and appearance of the rail corridor. |
