Logistics and Production 

Logistics and Production look after all of ONTRACK's and ONTRACK Infrastructures plant, equipment and stock needs as well as providing the different regions with track machines and the associated work teams to undertake big jobs such as sleeper relays.

Plant and EquipmentAs ONTRACK has an ageing fleet of track machines the Plant and Equipment team is repsonsible for upgrading the fleet and procuring new machines, which will require signficant capital expenditure.  In addition to this the Plant and Equipment team supports the plant and equipment needs of major rail development projects such as those currently in the Auckland and Wellington metro areas.

The team is also responsible for the day to day management of the track machine Fitter/Operators and depot based Plant Fitters.

National Resources

National Resources plan and manage the use of major track machines including the Ballast Cleaner’s, Tamper’s and Concrete Sleeper Layers. This includes priortising where the machines will go and transporting them as well as insuring materials such as new sleepers are onsite ready to be installed.

The team is also responsible for the day to day management of the track machine Gangers and Operators.

Purchasing and InventoryOur Purchasing and Inventory team are based from our Woburn depot in Lower Hutt, Wellington.  The warehouse carries a wide range of railways related stock and is the only warehouse in New Zealand which customers can order from.

The Purchasing and Inventory team have a number of roles including:
 

Store Person

These employees are responsible for ensuring that all stock and non-stock materials are stored and made available as required by customers, both internal and external. 

They have excellent customer service skills as building and maintaining relationships with customers is essential to this role as is presenting a professional image.  In addition to this they need

  • Current class 1 New Zealand driver’s licence
  • Operational warehouse experience
  • Knowledge of freight consignment
  • F Class fork hoist licence

Procurement SpecialistProcurement Specialists procure the Track, Structures, Signals and Traction materials and services to meet the needs of the business by maximising stock availability and minimising inventory levels.

They have strong negotiation skills, the ability to undertake and supervise quality control checks on incoming inventory and have strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships with a wide range of people.  In addition to this they need:

  • Experience in an equipment, materials and supply environment
  • A tertiary qualification in Supply Management would be advantageous
  • A working knowledge of Microsoft office products including Word and Excel
  • Knowledge of SAP would be advantageous
Signals Workshop

The Signals workshop overhauls and assembles electrical and mechanical signalling equipment and component’s including location boxes, point’s machines, switch locks, crossing alarm heads and barrier mechanisms.

Roles include Trainee Signal Equipment Assemblers and Trainee Wiring Shop Maintainers.  To succeed in these roles you will need:

  • A natural mechanical and electrical aptitude
  • A desire to learn and attain further qualifications
  • Reasonable working knowledge of tools and there use
