Our Structures Teams is responsible for fixing and maintaining railway structures throughout the country, such as bridges and tunnels.
This is physically demanding work so you need to be fit, strong and happy working at heights.
Rail is in a growth stage and there is a lot of work to be done upgrading structures so you may have the option of overtime and weekend work.
ONTRACK provides excellent training, including the chance to gain an NZQA qualification in Rail Transport Levels 2 and 3.
Trainee Structures WorkerAs a Trainee Structures Worker you will be learning from others. Safety is paramount in our environment so you will always be supervised.
To succeed in the role you will need:
- a full New Zealand driver’s license
- a heavy trade motor vehicle license is desirable
- previous experience working in construction, building or joinery
- a strong commitment to health and safety
previous experience working as part of a team.
Structures WorkerWhen you have passed the trainee skills modules you can progress to being a Structures Worker. Structures Workers complete a number of in-house training courses to improve their skills.
Structures Maintainer
Structures Maintainers are senior team members who sometimes mentor junior members. They may be required to work independently and unsupervised from time to time. Structures Workers continue to build on their skills and knowledge by attending in-house training courses.
Leading Structures Maintainer (Ganger)Gangers lead our structures teams. They have extensive structures knowledge, having passed advanced track skills courses. Gangers actively participate in work as they supervise the team and mentor junior staff.
