ONTRACK leases rail land for encroachments, utility access and advertising hoardings.
Encroachments
The leasing team is reviewing all occupations of rail land and identifying any encroachments. The review covers both informal and historic leases.
Two of the most common examples are historic agreements for farmers to graze stock and the occupation of land adjoining the corridor by householders, often illegally.
Where the occupied land is not required for rail purposes we offer the existing lessee a new Licence to Occupy. Where there is no current right of occupation, a licence is considered and an offer made, if appropriate.
There is a fee for a Licence to Occupy.
Utility access
The rail corridor can be used to carry utility services. For example, gas pipes, electricity cables and telecommunication cables can run along or across the rail corridor.

Advertising hoardings
There are a number of billboards placed on rail land. Two billboard companies currently hold the right to place hoardings in the rail corridor. APN Outdoor has the first right of refusal to put billboards on rail land. Twisted World (trading as Road Side Attraction) is identifying new billboard sites and erecting billboards. If you want to place a billboard on rail land contact APN Outdoor.
To place private signs identifying the location of your business please contact the National Office lease manager.
