ONTRACK and the Northland Regional Council will enter into a joint venture arrangement to progress the designation of land for a rail link between the existing North Auckland Line and Marsden Point, the two organisations confirmed today. Pike River Coal Limited’s agreement with Solid Energy to rail coal from the West Coast to the Port of Lyttelton is a vote of confidence in the reliability of the Midland Railway Line. Railway network manager ONTRACK will be firm but fair in its dealings with land owners who occupy railway land. However, it warns them they can expect to find their fences and structures relocated if they refuse to negotiate an agreement. A $25 million order placed today by ONTRACK for equipment which maintains and upgrades railway track infrastructure, is the biggest investment in track plant ever made in New Zealand. The Board of rail network infrastructure agency ONTRACK has appointed William Peet as the agency’s new Chief Executive ONTRACK has appointed Phil McQueen, currently its Northern Regional Manager, as Project Director for the electrification of Auckland’s rail network. ONTRACK is starting routine track de-stressing on Auckland’s network to reduce the need for speed restrictions over the hotter summer months and help improve train service reliability. Growing concern over behaviour around the rail network has prompted key members of the New Zealand rail industry to join forces to participate for the first time in Australasian Rail Safety Week, which starts on Monday, 23 July 2007. |
