ONTRACK to start de-stressing Auckland’s tracks

ONTRACK is starting routine track de-stressing on Auckland’s network to reduce the need for speed restrictions over the hotter summer months and help improve train service reliability.

The work needs to be done in areas with new or renewed tracks. This includes the new track on the western line between Henderson and Titirangi Rd Bridge, and, on the Southern Line, Sylvia Park, Manurewa and Nesdale Rd.

The work is being carried out as part of the Auckland wide rail network upgrade. Taking several months to complete, ONTRACK aims to de-stress the majority of track before the summer and will mainly work at night to allow passenger services to keep running.

“De-stressing work is noisy and we appreciate it may cause some disturbance for those living and working next to the rail corridor,” said Phil McQueen, ONTRACK Northern Regional Manager. “However, we will do our best to keep the impact of the work to a minimum.

”ONTRACK will give residents advanced notice of when the work is scheduled in their area through letterbox drops. Where possible, in more residential areas, the work will be done during the day on Sundays.

ONTRACK thanks all residents and businesses for their tolerance while we carry out this important safety maintenance work and apologises in advance for any inconvenience caused.

During the work, the public is asked to observe construction safety regulations and is also reminded that there is no public access to the train tracks.
