Developing Auckland's Rail TransportProject DART is a series of improvements to Auckland's rail network which, when completed, will allow more frequent and reliable passenger services and improve pedestrian safety around the rail network.

The 2006 Budget included funding of up to $600 million to fund these improvements and speed development of the Auckland rail network.

The project is the most significant redevelopment of the rail network in New Zealand since the 1980s.

Project DART includes:

  • Redevelopment of Newmarket station and junction
  • Western Line duplication and associated station improvements
  • Improved linking of Manukau City to the rail network
  • Eden Park upgrade
  • Quay Park Junction improvements
  • Improved signalling to allow for increased rail traffic
