Railway station platforms around the Wellington network are being improved, in readiness for the arrival of the new Matangi trains.
The work includes extending the length, rebuilding or re-surfacing some platforms. At others, the railway tracks will be moved slightly to make sure the new trains fit comfortably alongside.
Construction timeline
During 2009:
- Extension of Johnsonville Line platforms at Crofton Downs, Ngaio, Awarua St, Raroa, Khandallah and Simla Crescent stations
- Work at Epuni and Petone stations on the Hutt Valley Line
- Begin rebuild of Pukerua Bay on the Paraparaumu Line (North Island Main Trunk)
- Start realignment of tracks at some Paraparaumu Line stations
During 2010:
- Rebuild Pukerua Bay, Redwood and Waikanae stations on the Paraparaumu Line
- Build second platform at Paraparaumu station
- Extend Box Hill and Johnsonville Stations on the Johnsonville Line
- Continue realignment of tracks at selected stations
